Biographical Directory of the American Congress, p. 828 Charles Taylor doxey, a Representative from Indiana; born in Tippecanoe Co Ind. July 13, 1841; moved with his mother to Minnesota in 1855 and worked on a farm; later moved to Fairbury, IL where he attended public schools; moved to Anderson, Ind; during the Civil War entered the service as first Sgt of Co A, 19th Regt, Ind Vol Inf, in July 1861. promoted to 2nd Lt, subsequently resigned, and then bacame Captain of Co K, 16th Ind Inf, in which capacity he served until the close of the war; engaged in the manufacture of staves and headings; member of the State senate in 1876; member of the board of directors in the first natural gas companies of Anderson; elected as a Republican to the 47th congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Godlove S. Orth and served from Jan 17 to mar 3, 1883; unsuccessful candidate for election in 1884 to the 49th congress; resumed former business activities; died in Anderson Ind April 30, 1898; interment in Maplewood Cemetery.
