New York Genealogical & Biographical Record, v. 42, p. 175: Thomas Doxy applied for a house lot in New London, Conn., 25 Feb, 1650. By his wife Catherine he had Thomas and possibly other children. He died about the middle of March 1651-2, his wife being called "widow" 9 April 1652, she remarried Daniel Lane the same year and they removed to Long Island about 1662, Daniel Lane becoming one of the patentees of Brookhaven in 1666. Thomas Doxy, the son, sold the homestead in New London, with his mother's consent, in 1673 or earlier, to Christoper Christopher. Thomas Doxy the father was a sailor and owned a coasting vessel sailing from New London.

One thing Mr. Morrell says I question: Thomas was buried St. Michael's Parish, Barbadoes, 7 March 1687 [likely 1688, New Style Calendar]. Sarah, his widow, was buried there 28 May 1696. My question is - if this Thomas & Sarah lived on Long Island why were they buried in Barbadoes???

New England Historical & Genealogical Register, v. 14, p 201: Natives of America who were scholars of Dugard.-In the London "Notes & Queries" for Feb 11, 1860 [Second Series, IX, 101] I find some extracts from Dugard's MS. Register of Admissions to Merchant Taylor's School inter 1644-1664." One of them being a native of America, I copy for the Register:- "Thomas Doxey, only son of Thomas Doxey, yeoman, born in New England, 1651; admitted, 3 April, 1662.

From: R. A. Beals INFORMATION - John Bushell [Sr] will dated 1 Oct 1680, proved 11 Oct 1680, names among others wife Rebecca; dau Sarah DEPAY and gr son John DEPAY; son-in-law Thomas DEPAY, merchant, overseer; son John Bushell[Jr] Executor. With record of Sarah and Thomas' marriage and fact that DEPAY does not occur in any other published record can safly decide that it is misentered or mistranscribed for DOXEY. Shows Thomas is in Barbados in 1680, names wife's parents, and shows Thomas had son named John. Ref: FTM CD22 English Settlers in Barbados, Vol 1 Wills and Administrations, pp 57-8.

After the death of his father he managed the family's four-hundred-acre farm, and after his mother's passing he inherited the farm. Near the end of the Civil War, James Doxsee realized the profitableness of making clams fit for the consumer market, and in 1865, he began business on a small scale. Gradually his enterprise grew amd the name of Doxsee Pure Little Neck Clams became well known in markets throughout the country. In addition to clams, he canned clamjuice, chowder, and other allied products in his factory. His Long Island factory had a capacity of over four hundred bushels of clams per day. In 1897 he established a branch at Ocracoke, North Carolina, which was conducted by his son under the name of J. H. Doxsee and Sons. In 1901 the entire plant was moved to Ocracoke, North Carolina, but the commercial part of the business still was conducted at Islip. He continued his work in the canning industry and became prosperous and successful due to excellent traits of tireless energy and attention to details, careful study of business methods and steady application. In addition to his other business interest, he was vice president of the South Side Bank at Bay Shore. Politically he was a Democrat and vigorously supported the party.
