James Wellington Doxsie, born March 16, 1834 in Norwich Oxford Co. Mich according to family records, He was listed as age 21 in the 1860 census of Eaton Co. Mi., a blacksmith apprentice. He died after 1890. He was the son of Samuel Dorland and Phebe Ann [Youngs] Doxsie. James married Phebe Charlotte Cole who was born 4 June 1846 in Mi.
James Wellington Doxsie fought in the civil war. He was shot in the shoulder and arm at a battle at Nashville, Tenn. The wound never healed. He went to Harper Hospital, in Detroit, Mich., for surgery to remove bones in his shoulder. While he was in the hospital he contracted small pox and died.
An 1890 census of veterans lists James W. and Phebe C. Doxsie as living at Jackson, Jackson Co., Mi.
